tie me up

I rarely use this blog to speak of products, but these slippers caught my eye mostly because we don't have any decent slippers to wear around the house and always walk around in socks or bare foot. Aside from seeming very comfortable and simple, you lace them up yourselves. This is Lasso

Izziyana Suhaimi

It's not everyday that I find such a perfect combination between illustration and embroidery.
This is Izziyana Suhaimi, a Singapore-based artist. In her latest work she combines pencil illustrations with colorful folk-inspired embroideries.
Enjoy!

no more empty walls

Slowly I'm going to fill them up with more frames and embroideries. I'm finally finished with this work I started last year and now I'm starting a special embroidery gift, aside from getting some tea bags together for a tea swap with meiadeleite.

have a great weekend!

shop local

I wanted wrist warmers. Sandra's are beautiful but I wanted to buy local.

So I discovered Lisbon based Ana Amorim who is behind the shop wearaddiction and her lovely mustard yellow wrist warmers.

And now they are mine.

we are family

My lastest commissioned worked is hanging at her sister's home. It was a special birthday present to remember a special childhood memory. I'm glad to be a part of it.
Thank you for the post and the fotos!

Preparing everything for today's bookbinding activity with kids.
I've chosen the coptic stitch because it's a very simple procedure and the kids are around 8-13 years old...

shop update

Some months ago I bought a bunch of hand embroidered napkins that I'm transforming into runners for bedside tables, but with a twist: inspiring statements! Available here and here
If you have a statement you'd like to see as last thing you read before going to bed or the first thing when waking up, just leave a comment and I'll write it in red!

What I most like about traditional Portuguese embroidered handkerchiefs is the concept: an embroidered message, usually written in verse, and illustrated (or not) with symbolic images of the message being said. So you can easily adapt this concept to any occasion.
Last year, when she said yes, my special gift was this handkerchief wishing them all the best in their new life together as husband and wife. It was inspired in this beautiful story about life and hope, where a red line connects the whole story.

PS: The baby boy is almost here. All they need now is a dog.

Working on a wedding gift inspired by cross stitched Portuguese handkerchiefs. The poem is Soneto do Amor Total, by Vinicius de Morais.

Las manas

It's obvious: I enjoy transforming photos into embroidery projects!
Las manas was inspired by this pretty photo of me and my sisters.
